Terroir

The wines come from Veguer Torre del Garraf Massif, a different and original to all others that can be found in Catalunya terroir. This is a great mass of limestone formed in the Tertiary, located in the southern part of the Sierra Litoral, located between the Mediterranean Sea and the plain of the Penedès.

Veguer tower is located at the eastern end of the massif of Garraf in an idyllic location: at the foot of the top of Montgròs and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea which is just 4km.

Floor

The Garraf Massif is characterized by shallow calcareous soils. Marine fossils that we find sometimes in our vineyards remind us that about 20 million years ago this whole area was part of the Mediterranean Sea. This feature is the main sensory characteristic of our wines: salt and iodized notes, minerality, marine memories that evoke what we went sea.

The composition of the lands of Torre del Veguer is extremely chalky or limestone and texture varies depending on the proximity to Montgròs, where it is clay loam, or the Mediterranean, whose texture is sandy loam. Another feature of our grief is the low organic matter content of our farm and is oriented south, towards the Mediterranean Sea.

Weather

Massis del Garraf has a very particular mesoclima. The days of much heat stroke are hot, thanks to the thermoregulatory effect of the sea, allows the temperature is milder compared to places farther from the sea. The Mare Nostrum offers its sea breeze helps cool and temper our vineyards decreasing the maximum daytime temperature.

Regarding the microclimate of Torre del Veguer enjoy a dry Mediterranean climate, with an average annual rainfall of 550mm and as the temperatures, the maximum annual is around 36 ° C and with a low around -2 ° C. Thermal oscillations in the final period of maturation are about 20 ° C allowing us a slow increase in the concentration of sugars and polyphenol maturation, optimal conditions for producing wines of great quality.

Viticulture

The estate consists of 15 hectares of vineyards plus olive and fruit trees. We planted the following grape varieties: Muscat de Frontignan or Grano Menudo, and Xarel.lo Xarel.lo Vermell, Malvasia de Sitges, Grenache, Petit Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

av_naia_vinas

The Vinya Xarel.lo of Pou is the oldest we have, vines training vessel built in 1975. All others are trellised, Muscat is the oldest of 1986, 2 plots of Cabernet Sauvignon are the 1990 and the Petite Syrah 1993. the newest are those of Sitges Malvasia and Garnacha that were planted in 2013.

Our farm is very productive, in 2015 we obtained yields of 5.000kg / ha for Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.500kg / Ha for Petit Syrah, 5.500kg / Ha for Xarel.lo and 8.000kg / Ha for Muscat. It is therefore advisable to follow a rotation plan for the proper payment of the vineyard. We are committed to quality so we made 2 egg yolks short prunings and we are certified as organic producers, with all the extra effort involved.

Do not buy grapes from other growers and the entire vineyard is located around the winery to no more than 500m., This feature conceptually comoVi estate or Vino de Pago known. Consequently and vintage, the grapes time passing from the time it is cut until it enters bodega can be minutes or up to 1 hour. This is a great advantage over other producers as discarded grape deterioration and possible spontaneous fermentations due to long transport times. Besides grape care is guaranteed because all it is picked by hand and in boxes. This allows us to draw a harvest strategy according to the health status of the vineyard and greater care of the grapes through the use of boxes to the detriment of the trailer. Finally we select the grapes in the winery before it enters into the hopper of the stemmer.

Ecology and Environment

Since the last renovation completed in 1995, Torre del Veguer has preserved the personality of the estate, its scenery, away from residential buildings to identify with their natural territory

We are committed to environmental sustainability, we only have one planet and we must care and respect to the maximum so that he respects us. Global warming, increased ozone depletion because some countries do not meet the quota of emissions of CO2 and other polluting gases do not help this. Perhaps the reason that occur Tsunamis, tornadoes and other extreme weather events.

From Torre del Veguer we think that everyone should contribute their bit and this is ours: separating waste and recycling, try to print the minimum paper, use recycled paper and we do more incapié is not to use pesticides and other pollutants in the care of the vineyard gases, following the rules and guidelines of the CCPA.

Following the philosophy of the property, all our vineyard has been registered in the Catalan Council of Producció Ecological Agricultural (CCPA) in 2010 and 2013 and for harvest 2016 100% of our wines and have the official certification of Wines ecological.

Because of the uncertainty of change, we started in 2010 with the Xarel.lo whose skin is harder and resistant to diseases and the experience was successful. Already in 2013 we continue with all the other grape varieties.

Organic viticulture prevents the use of products derived from chemical synthesis, we can not find naturally. These would eradicate the infection immediately. Yes it allows the use of natural products that stop the infection but it is still there latent, so we must be vigilant to not be reactivated again.

We use the technique of sexual confusion of botrana Lobesia: it is small emitters of female pheromones that attract males but they ultimately find females. Inhibitors are playing the vine moth, which allows us to have fewer illnesses.

Because of the proximity to the sea and moisture it entails changing traditional ecological viticulture it has not been easy. Remember that damp, dark and unventilated areas are hotbeds of infection. Therefore, we must get off the tractor and manually treat the vineyard, as once it did. Green pruning that takes place in the months of May and June is fundamental to the well ventilated and protected from diseases vineyard work. It is also very important to be aware of the rain, because water takes the natural product and the vineyard is unprotected.

ecologia

The care of fauna such as the bee-eater (Abellerol in Catalan), the hoopoes (Puput in Catalan) and goldfinch (Cadernera in Catalan), as well as its flora, especially the chamaerops, currently protected, has been constant over the years.
